Subaru Maintenance Schedule

Subaru Service Center

If you drive a Subaru in the Pittsburgh area, it’s important that you bring it in for regular service. Sticking to a routine maintenance schedule is the easiest and most effective way to keep your Subaru running in the best condition possible! Every Subaru vehicle has a different service schedule–your owner’s manual will give you specific details–but there are some general milestones that are universal across the lineup. Routine services include oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid replacements, while later appointments may include engine inspections, spark plug replacements, and PCV valve service. The service team at Subaru of South Hills has put together a brief guide outlining the Subaru maintenance schedule below – check it out!

Recommended Subaru Maintenance Intervals

So, how often do Subarus need to be serviced? Although individual vehicles vary–some require service in as little as 3,750 miles or as many as 7,500 miles–the generally recommended Subaru maintenance intervals are 6,000 miles or 6 months of drive time. For the SUBARU BOXER engine, which all new and recently pre-owned Subaru vehicles have, there are four classes of service: A, B, C, and D. Service A is the most frequent and lowest level, while Service D is only performed after five years of drive time. Check out the services involved with each milestone, and well as the answer to the question “should I follow the maintenance schedule,” below:

After 6,000 miles or 6 months: Service A

  • Replace engine oil and filter
  • Inspect tire condition and adjust tire pressure
  • Service battery
  • Road test
  • Inspect and adjust fluid levels
  • Inspect all lights, wipers, and washers
  • Inspect steering and suspension components

After 12,000 miles or 12 months: Service B

  • All Service A inspections, as well as:
  • Wheel alignment
  • Remove, inspect, and service front and rear brakes
  • Test coolant, inspect hoses, and clamps
  • Inspect engine and cabin air filters

After 36,000 miles or 36 months: Service C

  • All Service A and B inspections, as well as:
  • Full battery service and test
  • Remove, inspect, and service parking brake
  • Service fuel injectors
  • Inspect all emissions-related hoses
  • Inspect and replace PCV valve
  • Replace brake fluid

After 60,000 miles or 60 months: Service D

  • All Service A, B, and C inspections, as well as:
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Replace transmission and differential fluids

Should I Follow the Subaru Maintenance Schedule?

Yes, you should stick to the recommended Subaru maintenance intervals no matter what your driving habits around Bethel Park may be. Even if you don’t drive frequently, your car’s components will wear out and need to be replaced, so it’s important that you stay on top of service. If you go too long between maintenance appointments, you may run into unnecessary trouble on the road and end up paying more in repairs.
